The Conference pear was bred by Thomas Rivers in Hertfordshire, England in the 1800’s. The pear has a distinctive long, tapering shape and is the most popular pear grown in Britain in both Commercial and domestic gardens probably due to the fact it crops very heavily and seems to fare better in wet, cool weather than most other pears
